SPARKZ (CA) has secured a grant of $9.8 million from the U.S. Department of Energy for cobalt-free recycled lithium-ion batteries at the company's first manufacturing facility. The grant is part of 14 projects (totaling $428 million in large-scale investments) aimed at "accelerating clean energy manufacturing in the U.S., decarbonizing American industry, and addressing vulnerabilities in critical energy supply chains." Similar investments are being made in other states, targeting communities with retired coal facilities.
